AVRO Aircrafts History

Some AVRO Airplane Pilot's Manuals PDF are above the page.

The engineer Elliot Roe, well-known at the beginning of the 20th century, was engaged in aviation production at the dawn of his career.

Around 1904, he became seriously interested in motorcycles. Moreover, the principle of the motorcyclist's protection from the weather became his obsession.

A year later, he founded the company AVRO, whose name consisted of the first letters of his name. His company lasted 52 years, and all this time Roe tried to realize his many revolutionary ideas in many ways.

The first model appeared immediately, in 1905.

But it was rather a draft model, in which only one of the ideas of Elliot Roe was seriously embodied. The engineer installed exorbitantly large wings on the motorcycle. Then there was a lull.

The next car did not come out soon - in 1913. Among its features, it was possible to distinguish a very low landing of the driver, whose legs, according to the idea, were located on both sides of the engine.

The Douglas engine itself was a flat two-cylinder.

In addition, this car was equipped with a Druid fork, a sufficiently long wheelbase of 183 centimeters, a rear suspension and a steering wheel.

But there was one feature that distinguished this vehicle from ordinary motorcycles. Namely, the remote wheels, which made it possible to keep the motorcycle parked in an upright position.

A turning point could have come in 1957. Elliot Roe launched the conceptually new Avle Bicar. It differed from the others, first of all, by the clearly smaller displacement of the LE engine manufactured by Velocette, which amounted to only 192 cubic centimeters.

There were many other technical features in the motorcycle that fully corresponded to Roe's concept, but all the work was done in vain.

Only one motorcycle was released, and this happened after Roe retired. He realized that he could not raise the company.
