Ihor Sikorsky left for the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. There he, together with a group of enthusiasts, created his own aircraft manufacturing company, Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation.

In March 1919, Ihor Sikorsky arrived in America with several hundred dollars in his pocket. He settled in the Manhattan area.
Initially, Ihor Sikorsky focused on the development of multi-engine aircraft, and then the amphibious aircraft.
But in the late 1930s, demand for amphibious aircraft dropped and United Aircraft merged with Vought Aircraft.
In 1939, he flew his first single-rotor helicopter.
In November 2015, the company was sold to the American military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin. The deal amounted to $ 7.1 billion.
