History of Airbus Aircraft

Some AIRBUS Aircraft & Helicopter Flight Manuals PDF above the page.

Airbus SE is one of the largest aircraft manufacturing companies in the world, formed in the late 1960s through the merger of several European aircraft manufacturers.

Manufactures passenger, cargo and military transport aircraft under the Airbus brand. The headquarters is located in Blagnac, France.

The company is 100% owned by the industrial group of the same name, it produces more than 50% of the world's aircraft and is the main competitor of Boeing.

After WWII, the United States dominated the global aerospace industry. Douglas, Boeing and Lockheed developed many aircraft models during the war, which were then modified for civilian needs (DC-6, Boeing 377, Constellation, etc.).

Despite the British government's refusal to fund the Airbus project, Arnold Hall, director of the British company Hawker-Siddeley, has already invested £ 35 million in the design and manufacture of wings for the new aircraft.

He decided to join forces with Sud-Aviation and Deutsche Airbus for the A300B project only.

On January 1, 1970, Sud-Aviation and Nord-Aviation merge to form the aerospace giant Aerospatiale.

On December 18, 1970, Aerospatiale and Deutsche Airbus form Airbus Industrie. The new organization is headquartered in Paris and Franz-Josef Strauss has been appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Spanish manufacturer Construcciones Aeronáuticas Sociedad Anónima (CASA) joined Airbus Industrie and acquired 4.2% of shares in the new company, Aerospatiale and Deutsche Airbus' shares were reduced to 47.9% each.

On September 3, 1970, Air France places an order for 6 A300B2s (one of the A300s), which can accommodate 270 passengers. This was the first commercial order for Airbus.

In 2001, following the consolidation of the European aerospace industry, AerospatialeDASA and CASA merged to form EADS and joined forces with BAe Systems to form an integrated Airbus company, 80% owned by EADS and 20% by BAE.

The headquarters of the new company is located in Toulouse, and Noel Forjard became its first president.

In September 2006, EADS acquires a 20% stake in Airbus from British Aerospace.

On November 15, 2017, the Indian low-cost airline IndiGo bought 430 Airbus A320 NEO aircraft worth 42 billion euros. This is the largest order ever.

In February 2019, Airbus announced that it plans to end production of A380 aircraft. The company explained that the decision was due to lack of demand.
