History of Kaman Helicopters

Some KAMAN Helicopter Flight Manuals PDF above the page.

Kaman Helicopters was founded in 1945.

After years of manufacturing military single-rotor helicopters, Kaman returned to civilian crossover helicopters again.

Kaman conducted an analysis of the civilian helicopter market, finding that there were no helicopters specifically designed for logging, fire fighting, and external sling operations, and concluded that there was a large market for light helicopters - flying cranes.

Kaman began development of the K-MAX helicopter flying crane using techniques from the 1990s, with crisscrossing rotors for high lift and steering using aerodynamic servo wings on the blades.

Designed from the outset as a civilian helicopter, the K-MAX single engine helicopter is designed for external sling operations.

According to Kaman, the criss-cross rotor design is most effective in vertical lifting operations as it reduces power consumption, structural weight, noise, vibration, maintenance costs, and the safety associated with tail rotor.

The disadvantage is the low speed - 185-210 km / h, however, vertical lifting operations usually include flights over short distances.

The first prototype K-MAX helicopter made its first flight on December 23, 1991, the first public demonstration was on March 22, 1992, and the first production helicopter flew on January 12, 1994.

The price of the helicopter is $ 3.5 million.
