History of Leonardo Helicopters

Some LEONARDO Helicopter Flight Manuals PDF above the page.

The last few years in the history of Leonardo Helicopters have been marked by a series of economic and organizational problems, which was finally publicly recognized by the company last year and led to a number of organizational conclusions.

In fact, inefficiency in the field of military sales and difficult market conditions led to the fact that Leonardo Helicopters indicators fell to their lowest values in five years.

Revenues declined from $ 4.2 billion in 2012 to $ 3.6 billion in 2017, and profits fell from $ 0.48 billion to $ 0.43 billion, respectively. Even while remaining in a significant plus, the level of ambition of the company does not allow Leonardo to be content with its position within the general trend.

Against the backdrop of a 45% decline in the civilian helicopter market globally, poor sales discipline and problems with production planning did a disservice to the company.

How was this expressed? In an attempt to compete in an overly competitive market, the new managing director said the company was offering customers too much flexibility by tweaking configurations too quickly.

This practice had a negative impact on both production volumes and profitability.

To balance production plans and demand, Leonardo Helicopters launched a new integrated planning and control model that refined the logic of production flows and supply chains. At the heart of this setup is a simple new rule: "You cannot change the configuration while the helicopter is in the final assembly line."

Of course, the predictable negative financial implications were also associated with the sharp renewal of the line and the market entry of AW189 and AW169 without sufficient marketing preparation in the production cycle.

Another internal problem that affected the company's revenue was errors in the promotion of military products, both as a result of delays in the execution of contracts and due to errors in the tender process.

Today, the company plans to achieve sustainable profit growth up to 2012 indicators, which are expected to be achieved by 2022.

The main driver of this growth will be the conquest of 50% of the global market share through the aggressive promotion of the AW169 / AW139 / AW189 family helicopters in regional markets, through the implementation of technological advances and increasing competitive pressure in key areas of helicopter aviation.

Leonardo also plans to focus on his core production, limiting the practice of acquisitions and acquisitions, avoiding too wide diversification.
