Consolidated Aircraft Corporation - an American Aircraft Corporation, founded in 1923 by Ruben Fleet. Arose by the merger of Gaulladet Aircraft and Dayton-Wright Aircraft.

Consolidated is known for its series of flying boats of the 1920-1930s. The most famous model of the Consolidated marine patrol bomber is PBY Katalina (PB is the patrol bomber, Y is the Consolidated index of the company).

Catalina was produced throughout the Second World War and used by the Allies. No less famous is the heavy B-24 Liberator bomber, which, like the Catalines, was used on the Pacific and European theater of operations.

In 1943, Consolidated merged with Vultee Aircraft, forming the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft concern, abbreviated Convair.

General Dynamics acquired a majority stake in Convair in March 1953, and its unit continued to produce aircraft and parts until the sale of the McDonnell Douglas company in 1994 (the full shutdown took place two years later, in 1996).

Consolidated headquarters and later Convair was located in San Diego, California.
