Robinson Helicopter is an amazing company, one of a kind as it was founded and developed under the leadership of one person.
He managed not only to make his dream come true, but also to achieve unprecedented success, "launching into the sky", probably the most popular helicopters in the world today.
In 1973, Frank Robinson, an engineer at the Hughes Helicopter Company, presented to management for the last time the project of a small, cheap helicopter at the price of a regular passenger car.
However, he again received a refusal, arguing that such a helicopter could not be created for such money, moreover, it would be unreliable and there would be no demand for it.
In the end, Frank got tired of persuading employers and left Hughes.
After mortgaging his house, which was extremely risky, Frank founded his own helicopter company, the Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC), the main areas of which were located at his home in Palos Verdes.
The R22 took off in 1975, just two years after the company was founded.
Further work related to flight technical tests and obtaining the FAA certificate required for the serial assembly and sale of R22 took four long years.
All this time, the company repeatedly found itself on the verge of bankruptcy, until finally, in March 1979, the R22 was launched into series.
The result was the R44, the first prototype of which took off in 1990. In 1992, the FAA certificate was received for this helicopter, and in the spring of 1993 the machine was put into production.
The market met the new development with triumph, and after a relatively short period of time, the R44 actually surpassed its older brother in terms of sales.
And in March 2007, at Heli-Expo 2007, the company presented its fundamentally new model - a five-seater R66 helicopter.
This multipurpose vehicle, primarily intended for business and long-distance flights, can compete with the Bell 206 and Eurocopter EC120 Colibri.
The helicopter is 20 cm wider than its predecessor, the R44, and is the first Robinson aircraft to include a luggage compartment.
